Spongebob at the Super Bowl

The super bowl was yesterday.

I never know when it’s gonna happen and most years I learn the date of the super bowl the day after it happens, honestly.

I like to watch the half time show the day after, it’s kind of a ritual and this years show was disappointing.

I’m not going to blindly hate on Maroon 5, but I think this was an odd choice. (I’m just saying I want a BTS half time show, it would shake the table even though it’s a bad idea)

The halftime show isn’t supposed to be a concert in the middle of a football game, it’s kind of performance focused event and when I think of amazing live performers Maroon 5 are pretty low on that list.

It wasn’t like offensive in it’s badness, in fact I wouldn’t really call it bad. It was just… a concert.

It was cool to see Travis Scott and Big Boi come out. (even though Big Boi’s fur coat made me wretch STOP KILLING ANIMALS FOR UGLY CLOTHES!!!)

What’s interesting is that most discussion of the halftime show I’ve seen has been about the spongebob cameo?

I don’t know, I guess I’m not into spongebob enough to care.

Stephen Hillenburg was a revolutionary in his field and it’s nice to see a tribute to him, but…

Do people really like spongebob this much?

I always considered spongebob to be a backup option. Like if I was stuck in the house and Hannah Montana, Phineas and Ferb, or iCarly (or who am I kidding, any trash reality tv show [come back flavor of love!!!]) weren’t on I would settle for spongebob. It was never first choice though.

I’ve noticed a lot of people my age have an obsession with this show and I can’t seem to get it. I’ve seen people call it the best show ever made, the blueprint of comedy, the foundation of their childhood, and all sorts of other hopefully hyperbolic accolades. I really don’t get it!

I really liked the spongebob movie as a kid, but it felt a load different that the show. The show was just… noisy? I can’t think of a description. Lots of the episodes are great, but the great episodes are outnumbered like 15 to 1 at this point after the shows 20 year run.

ooo… You wanna feel old?

I’ve been alive for a shorter time that spongebob has been on TV.

Isn’t that weird to think about?

Spongebob’s first episode aired before I was even conceived.

I don’t really know what I’m talking about.

It would’ve been interesting to see an all spongebob halftime show I guess.

Aggretsuko Is The Best Show on Netflix

I am not an avid Netflix user.

I don’t tend to visit Netflix unless I’m in a very specific mood to watch stand up comedy or anime. I don’t really have an interest in much else. Actually, sometimes I’ll watch documentaries on there. So 3 things.

Today I was in a big anime mood™.

So I went to the anime genre section and was quickly reminded that Netfilx made an anime about the new Sanrio character Aggretsuko.

I keep up with all the Sanrio news and am probably the sole cause of like 15% of their sales, so I wanted to know the context of the litany of very interesting merchandise Sanrio has released for Aggretsuko.

Well, I watched the whole first season and the christmas special…

In one sitting.

When I say that it sounds unimpressive, but I am not a binge watcher. I have a terrible attention span and I don’t tend to be particularly compelled by plot (that’s why I tend to watch mostly stand-up and documentaries).

But oh my god this show is good.

I really didn’t expect it to be quite as enthralling as it was, but I couldn’t look away.

Somehow all the characters are super interesting (including the creepy as hell meerkat), the jokes all land, the animation is consistently upsettingly adorable, and I love everything about it.

My personal favorite character is Fenneko, Retsuko’s (the main character) coworker who is the cutest fennec fox ever.

I also really love Haida, the hyena.

Even the characters that are supposed to be unlikeable are at least interesting.

I haven’t been this interested in a series in, like, years. The last time I remember being this enthralled by a show is probably the first season of Kill La Kill, which I watched back in my freshman year of high school.

This sounds so positive it’s like I’m sponsored but I’m not, I’m just very happy.

Ok, gonna go look at the prices of aggretsuko merch to see how I can buy all of it.

If I’m Ever In A Coma

I read this story about a guy who was in a coma the other day. In the hospital room they kept the channel tuned to PBS kids. The thing is, the man had the full ability to hear. So he had to listen to hours upon hour of children’s programming. Of all the shows he had to listen to the one that grated on him the most was Barney. After coming out of the coma the man had an undying hatred of Barney because he had to endure so much of it.

I don’t know if the story is true, but it freaked me out.

So since I’m freaked out by the concept of being driven mad by a hospital TV in the event I’m ever in a coma, I have some rules for the TV just in case.

  • I would like at least one news broadcast played per day so that if I come out of my hypothetical coma I don’t have to catch up to the world.
  • If The Golden Girls is on, change the channel to that.
  • Try to play foreign language media for me as much as possible so I don’t forget my languages.
  • Please no cop dramas i.e NCIS or Law and Order. They freak me out while also boring me to death.
  • Try to play mainly sitcoms on the tv. I like Seinfeld, TGG, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Louie, Sex and the City, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (my guilty pleasure, don’t judge me) The Simpsons (earlier seasons), and The Nanny quite a bit. I however don’t like Friends, Family Guy, The Big Bang Theory, or Cheers. Don’t play The Big Bang Theory for the love of god.
  • If Flavor of Love reruns come on, you have to play them for me. No excuses.

So that’s all that comes to mind when I think about what I’d like on the TV if I’m in a coma. Put a little reminder in your brain about this just in case.

Thank you for reading! ♡
